Detoxing Skin Care

Personal care items that we use everyday such as shampoos, lotions, conditioners, shower gels, and soaps can contain chemicals like phthalates, parabens, sulfates and even formaldehyde. These toxic chemicals can be absorbed through the skin and stored in our tissues, which can have an adverse impact on health. Studies show that breast cancer patients have increased number of phthalates in the urine. Your skin is the largest organ your body has so watching the topicals, shampoos, and other products you use can help prevent adverse health. Eliminating these sources of chemicals and replacing them with everyday ingredients can keep your skin and body in better health.

Strawberry Hand and Foot Exfoliant

8-10 strawberries (pureed)
2 tbsp apricot oil (may substitute olive oil)
1 tsp coarse salt (such as kosher salt or sea salt)

Mix together all ingredients, massage into hands and feet, rinse and pat dry. Leftovers can keep in the fridge for up to a week

Cocoa Facial Mask

Helps with dehydrated skin. Sour cream contains fat as well as lactic acid and hydrates as it gently exfoliates. Honey is a humectant that also boosts hydration.

1 tbsp cocoa powder
1 tbsp sour cream
1 tbsp honey
1 egg white

Combine ingredients and apply to face. Let dry before rinsing.

Avocado Hair Mask

1 half avocado (mashed up)
1-2 tbsp sour cream, egg yolks or mayonnaise

Combine ingredients and massage into clean, damp hair. Let sit for 15 minutes before rinsing with cool water. Treatment can be applied every two weeks
