5 Ways to Achieve Your New Year's Resolutions

1. Get very clear on your intentions.

Imagine yourself 5 years from now. Where will be living? What will your career be? What will you have accomplished? Life can flash by before you know it. Seeing into your future is like training a muscle--get very clear on your intentions and start connecting your actions with your intent. Rather than letting life happen to you, take control. The clearer you are about the future you want, the more likely it is to happen for you.

2. Write it down.

A study at Harvard Business School showed that the most successful graduates were the ones who wrote out all of their goals and planned each step to make it happen. It sounds simple, but it is so important. Make a plan and write it down. Place your plan somewhere you will see it every day in order to stay focused on each step. You only have one life; make a plan for what is going to happen.

3. Allocate time for your goals.

In order to achieve your goals, you have to invest time, energy and effort. This aspect can be the most difficult for people--you probably do not have an overabundance of free time. Schedule time for yourself into your weekly calendar, even if it is just a few hours a week or means giving up other commitments. Focus on your intentions and the steps necessary to reach your goals.

4. Have someone hold you accountable.

Find a friend, family member or mentor who can provide ongoing support over time. It's easy to give into your doubts or lose focus, and it can be extremely helpful to have someone who will hold you accountable and help you keep your word. Sometimes all it takes is an outside perspective to give you encouragement.

5. Have faith

Once you are clear in your path, pay attention to what is happening around you. When you are on the right track, things naturally seem to fall into place. Other times you may feel like you are bashing your head into a wall. It's usually because you are doing the wrong thing. All you have to do is listen and jump in.
